Just a couple of days after setting the stage for a major AEW World Tag Team Champions match, Kenny Omega has announced that he’s out of action for the time being due to a medical issue.
Omega broke the news to fans on X/Twitter on Friday, posting a photo from a hospital bed.
“I can’t really sugar coat this. I’m out indefinitely,” he wrote. “I tried to keep pushing past the pain for as long as I could until it became too much. Luckily doctors caught me when they did. I’ll be here so in the mean time, please enjoy wrestling!”

Omega didn’t elaborate on his medical condition, but wrestling reporter Sean Ross Sapp posted on X/Twitter that he was reportedly diagnosed with diverticulitis, an inflammation or infection in the digestive tract. Sapp added that Omega has apparently been ill for some time, even ahead of his recent match with Ethan Page, and sought medical attention after that. The match was taped on December 5, and aired on December 9.
The former AEW World Champion was last seen just a couple of days ago, making an appearance on Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite. There, he and Chris Jericho challenged AEW World Tag Team Champions Ricky Starks and Big Bill to a title match, which was set to take place at AEW Worlds End pay-per-view on December 30. It’s unclear what the plan is for that now that Omega is out of action.

Omega previously took a medical hiatus from November 2021 to August 2022, during which he underwent multiple surgeries, including ones for his knees and a hernia.
