Tech reviewer Marques Brownlee, popularly known as MKBHD, recently unveiled the design of the Nothing Phone 2 in his video titled “Dope Tech: Nothing Phone 2 Redesign.” Let’s delve into the details of this highly anticipated smartphone.
Design
The design of the Nothing Phone 2 retains the transparent aesthetic that the company is famous for but with a few changes. The successor introduces a curved glass back, which personally evokes mixed feelings. Another notable difference is the splitting of the Glyph LED strips into multiple cut-outs. Additionally, the new phone stands out from its predecessor with its light gray color.
Shifting our attention to the front, the Phone 2 places the hole-punch camera cutout at the center of the smartphone, departing from the top-left position seen in the Phone 1.
Enhanced Glyph LED Back Panel
MKBHD reveals that the Nothing Phone 2 features 33 LEDs on the back panel, an increase from its predecessor’s 12 LEDs. The back panel retains a similar design, but the large center arc is now divided into six smaller arcs, and the camera arc is split into two parts.
The main LED strip in the center arc, located in the top right, consists of 16 LEDs and offers interactive functionality, similar to the exclamation LED at the bottom.
New LED Features and Notifications
The 16-LED arc strip serves as a progress bar, providing more precise feedback than its predecessor. It can be utilized with timers and third-party apps like Zomato and Uber to display the progress of various activities, such as the distance in an Uber ride or the location of a Zomato food order.
The Nothing Phone 2 also introduces “Essential Notifications” in the Glyph interface, allowing users to select important apps. Notifications from these chosen apps will be indicated by the lit slanted LED strip at the top until they are addressed.
Specifications
While specific details were not disclosed in the video, the Nothing Phone 2 is confirmed to feature a flagship Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, Spectra 570 image signal processor (ISP), and a transparent Type-C cable.
Rumored specifications include a 6.7-inch 120Hz AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution, options for 8GB or 12GB of RAM, 128GB or 256GB of storage, a 50MP main camera, a 50MP ultra-wide camera, a 32MP front camera, a 4,700mAh battery with 33W fast charging support, and the Nothing OS 2.0 based on Android 13. The device is also expected to include features like an in-display fingerprint scanner and stereo speakers.
Expected Price and Availability
The Nothing Phone 2 is expected to be priced between Rs 40,000 and Rs 45,000 in India. The smartphone will be available for purchase on Flipkart, with pre-orders already open on the platform. Interested buyers can secure their Nothing Phone 2 by paying an initial amount of Rs 2,000, with the remaining balance due upon final purchase.
Pre-order customers will enjoy instant discounts with leading banks and discounted prices for accessories such as a Phone 2 case, a Phone 2 screen protector, a Nothing Stick, and a Nothing Power 45W charger.
