Ashleigh Plumptre featured in all of the Super Falcons games at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
Super Falcons defender, Ashliegh Megan Plumptre, has set her sights on playing at the 2024 Olympics, claiming it’ll be the pinnacle of her career, Soccernet.ng reports.
Plumptre, 25, moved to Saudi Arabia after the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia/New Zealand, despite having offers from several top clubs in Europe and America.
The versatile defender claims she already signed for Al-Ittihad before the World Cup, but she decided to keep the news on a low profile so as to focus on the tournament.
She helped the Super Falcons keep three clean sheets as they exited the tournament at the round-of-sixteen, but has not made any appearance for the team since then.
Now enjoying life in Saudi, Plumptre claims it’ll be a dream come true to don the colours of Nigeria at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Speaking with Arab news, the England-born Nigerian expressed her desire.
“Yes, it would be the pinnacle of my career. It makes me smile just thinking about the Olympics. I love helping people and the only thing I was interested in at school was human biology. I was just fascinated with the human body. My dream when I was younger was to be a doctor on an Olympic team because I love the Olympics,” the Al-Ittihad defender said.
Reminiscing about her World Cup experience, she mentioned it was a feeling she’d never forget and will remain with her for the rest of her life.
“It was a crazy, crazy experience, but one that I will always cherish, I want to remember this for the rest of my life,” she added.
Nigeria face a tough challenge as they face Cameroon in a two-legged in February as they aim to qualify for the Olympics next year.
