For some, the concept of ‘superhero fatigue’ in 2023 is a very real thing; for others, they doubt it exists – blaming a number of bad films in the subgenre as being the real culprit.
What is certain is that many are familiar with the concept now. Also, economically speaking, superhero movies are no longer the guaranteed box-office they once were – be it the recent wave of DC flops to Marvel’s recent “Secret Invasion” and “The Marvels” misfires.
Audiences seem burned out on comic-book films and overly complicated interconnected universes, a feeling Snyderverse creator and filmmaker Zack Snyder shares.
Speaking with The Atlantic, Snyder admits: “I have the same fatigue” and says comic book adaptations are in “a cul-de-sac now” and are no longer interested in telling self-contained stories: “No one thinks they’re going to a one-off superhero movie.”
Snyder also spoke about what he’s considering next and revealed that he would like to have a go at the James Bond franchise:
“It’d be cool to see, like, 20-year-old James Bond. The humble roots that he comes from. Whatever trauma of youth that makes you be able to be James Bond. There has to be something there.”
Snyder’s “Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire” is currently available for streaming on Netflix
