Earlier this week, Huawei unveiled its latest electric vehicle, M9. As reported by China’s LatePost Auto on December 26, Huawei has set an ambitious sales target of 600,000 vehicles for the upcoming year and has relayed this objective to its upstream suppliers. To reach this goal, Huawei needs to maintain a monthly sales volume of 50,000 units, averaging 12,500 units per model.
Huawei’s current EV product lineup includes the M5, the updated M7, and the newly launched M9. As per reports from Chinese media outlet Cailian, Wenji plans to introduce a new M5 in the first half of next year, and a completely new model, the M8, positioned between the M7 and M9, is slated for release in the latter half of the year.
Feedback from the market suggests that the new M7 will continue to be the primary sales driver in the coming year. Since its September launch, the new M7 has seen more than 27,000 units delivered. To date, the new M7 has secured 120,000 large orders. Official projections estimate the new M7’s monthly delivery capacity to be 30,000 units from next year onward. If production is maximized, the new M7 could constitute approximately 60% of the brand’s sales.
During the launch of Huawei M9, Yu Chengdong, CEO of Huawei’s Terminal BG and Chairman of the Vehicle BU, announced that the M9 had already received 54,000 pre-orders. Merely two hours post-launch, the Huawei M9 had secured over 10,000 large orders.
Achieving the 600,000 annual sales target is no small feat for Huawei. This figure matches FAW Audi’s total retail sales from last year, a brand with more than ten models on sale. Historical sales data indicates that companies surpassing 500,000 annual sales are typically joint venture brands or leading independent brands, whose single vehicle prices are typically lower than Huawei’s EVs.
Huawei’s smart car collaborations also extend to Chery, JAC, and BAIC. The first model resulting from Huawei’s partnership with Chery, the Luxeed S7, launched a month ago. However, a lack of test drive vehicles at end stores and uncertainty around mass production delivery remain areas of concern.
