With the top 8 locked in, here are our thoughts on the upcoming quarterfinal matches of the 2023 LoL Demacia Cup.
LoL Demacia Cup – Four Explosive Matches
NIP vs WBG
It’s unfortunate that we won’t see TheShy go up against Rookie in this match, now that the top laner has announced a break from competitive going into 2024.
Regardless, the new NIP squad seems to be clicking well already and it will be an exciting match against the runner-ups of the 2023 World Championship.
While we shouldn’t really look at the results of the match, it will still be a good benchmark to see how the WBG lineup works with the new top-jungle duo.
On the other hand, if NIP dominate WBG, it would mean that the team has the potential to fight for the top spots in the LPL next season.
RNG vs BLG
Like NIP, the new RNG squad is also finding great strides, and BLG will be the real test to see their level.
BLG made the upgrade in the mid lane with Knight, forming an incredible carry trio with Elk and Bin. Unfortunately, Knight and XUN won’t be playing in the tournament, which means that we probably won’t get to see BLG’s true form for now.
Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see how RNG performs in the series as an indicator of their potential.
RA vs LNG
RA was a surprise during the Demacia Cup, having beaten IG who have been playing together for quite a while.
Now, however, they will face LNG who arguably made the big upgrade in the jungle role with Weiwei coming in. Given that we haven’t seen LNG play so far, fans should pay attention to their current form to better understand the team’s power going into the new season. For RA, this will be a big challenge: if they were to win, it would be quite an upset.
TES vs JDG
This is probably the most anticipated match of the tournament: the new super team Top Esports facing the kings of the 2023 season JDG.
TES’ new lineup has the potential to go for a title run, and this match will have a special meaning for 369, who just left JDG during this offseason.
JDG will have to prove that despite Knight’s departure, the team can still hold the crown in the LPL. Kanavi will not be participating and Flandre is also not on the list to play, which means that JDG might not be in perfect form. Regardless, we will be able to see the rookie top laner Sheer in action, as well as Maggie from JDG’s academy team: watch out for them in this series.
