In a post game press conference, Sean McVay said that they had good opportunities to exploit the Lions’ defensive strategies, especially in open-field situations. However, the Lions’ tightened up their defense in the red zone. McVay acknowledged some execution issues with his team, particularly mentioning a critical play on third down where they got the coverage they wanted, but the Lions managed to break it up. Reflecting on that decision made with just four minutes left into the game and a timeout, McVay expressed, “We’re all for getting a stop and hindsight’s 20-20 and certainly regret that decision.”
With just four minutes and 20 seconds remaining in the game and the Lions clinging to a 24-23 lead, the Rams faced a crucial 3rd & 14th at the Detroit 44-yard line. In a pivotal moment, the Lions’ defense, led by CB Cam Sutton, made a key play by knocking a pass away from Rams star wide receiver Puka Nacua. This defensive effort forced the Rams to punt, and then they never regained their possession of the ball.
