A taxi operator is accused of resisting arrest at an impoundment lot after he tried to retrieve his car.
It was shared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Tuesday that a vehicle belonging to the accused, Daniel Parkes, was seen in a no-parking zone. The vehicle was seized by the police and taken to an impoundment lot. Parkes went to the facility and got into an argument with the wrecker driver. A security guard who saw the fracas closed a gate preventing Parkes from leaving the lot. However, Parkes gained access to his vehicle and tried to drive it away from the lot, causing the security guard to run from the gate. Another gate on the compound was closed, which prevented Parkes from fleeing the facility. The police were contacted and Parkes was accosted. He reportedly started behaving boisterously and and in a disrespectful manner.
Parkes pleaded not guilty to assault at common law and resisting arrest before Senior Parish Judge Lori-Anne Cole-Montaque when he was arraigned.
“Your Honour, that policeman always a take set pon taxi man,” Parkes explained. He pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and was fined $2,000 or 10 days’ imprisonment.
The matter was adjourned until April 2 for the investigators to attend court as well as for the file to be completed.
