Queen Elizabeth II was a very particular woman who didn’t let the small details pass her by. And it’s for that reason that Prince Harry and wife Meghan enraged the late monarch over naming their daughter Lilibet according to the royal biographer Robert Hardman, the expert who revealed Queen Elizabeth’s fury over the episode.

Mr Hardman’s new book Charles III: New King. New Court. The Inside Story said Queen Elizabeth was “as angry as I’d ever seen her” after the couple stated she had been “supportive” of them using the nickname that was very personal to her.

But speaking on Good Morning Britain on Wednesday, January 17, Mr Hardman was keen to emphasise that it wasn’t the naming itself that had upset Her Royal Highness but the “handling” of it.

He said: “It was the way it was handled. It was the fact that she was presented as having given her blessing for something that had already been presented as a fait accomplit.

‘The one thing you don’t do with the Queen is put words in her mouth.’

“And the one thing you don’t do with the Queen is put words in her mouth.

“She’s always been extremely… she was always very clear about you know ‘I did this but I didn’t do that’.”

He recounted one tale that demonstrated what a keen eye for small details Queen Elizabeth had, revealing she changed one word in a speech so it was more sincere.

Mr Hardman said: “I always remember once, I’d been told that she’d been handed a speech and it began ‘I’m very glad to be back in Birmingham’ and she crossed out the word ‘very’ because she said ‘I’m glad to be back’ but she thought it smacked of insincerity.

“Her words were very careful. So when Harry and Meghan’s lawyers were effectively dragooning the Palace into supporting their version of events it was like ‘no’.”

The expert also revealed his thoughts on a possible reconciliation between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and King Charles saying that “the door is always open.” But he feels that a reunion between Prince Harry and Prince William is harder.

Queen Elizabeth II was reportedly very upset over Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to name their daughter Lilibet and reportedly voiced her feelings to royal aides.

Lilibet was a nickname that stuck from her childhood after she could never pronounce her own name and was fondly used by her father and then Prince Philip.

Meanwhile there’s been health drama for frontline royals this week – with King Charles needing treatment for an enlarged prostate and Princess Kate recovering from abdominal surgery.
