FRANKLINTON, NC, January 26, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ — Kavitha N. Krishnan has been included in Marquis Who’s Who. As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Krishnan is an occupational therapist who has dedicated her career to meeting the unique needs of children with sensory processing disorders, autism, and feeding difficulties. She completed a diploma in occupational therapy at Nanyang Polytechnic in 1996, and continued her studies, earning a Bachelor of Science with Honors in occupational therapy from Teesside University in 1999. In 2004, Dr. Krishnan graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a post professional master’s degree in health rehabilitation, and she was awarded a Doctor of Occupational Therapy with a specialization in autism spectrum disorders by the University of Illinois in 2012. As a part of her commitment to constant growth and serving her patients, Dr. Krishnan holds several additional credentials, including certifications Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disability (LEND) fellowship sponsored by maternal and child health from the University of Illinois and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Dr. Krishnan began her career in Singapore 1996 as a mental health occupational therapist for the Institute of Mental Health, departing the following year to accept a senior occupational therapist role at Alexandra Hospital. These early roles were instrumental in helping Dr. Krishnan realize her passion for working with children with special needs, and in 1999 she transitioned into pediatrics as an occupational therapist for the Asian Women’s Welfare Association. Between 2000 and 2003, she saw patients as a pediatric occupational therapist with the Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore. Dr. Krishnan relocated to the United States in 2004 to study, and worked as a project assistant at the University of Wisconsin-Madison for four years before becoming a specialist occupational therapist in pediatrics at the University of Illinois Medical Center in 2008.

In 2016, Dr. Krishnan left the University of Illinois Medical Center to become an occupational therapy supervisor for North Carolina State, where she would remain through 2019. She remains affiliated with several organizations as an educator, and has been adjunct faculty at Winston-Salem State University since 2017 and a speaker for Vyne Education and WakeAHEC. Dr. Krishnan established Healing Synergy in 2019 to provide specialized support to children with autism, ADHD, sensory processing, physical feeding challenges, including assessments and comprehensive treatment plans that bridge the gap between emotional and self-regulation skills, fine and gross motor skills development, and creating strategies for patients to handle a variety of real-world situations. The practice has grown to include a staff of three physical and occupational therapists, and has recently incorporated her two rescued dogs, Whiskey and River being trained as therapy dogs to provide animal assisted therapy. Dr. Krishnan considers establishing her practice, teaching and engaging in research to be her greatest professional accomplishment, and she is proud to have made a difference in the lives of her patients. She is the author of “The SI Solution: The Definitive Family Guide in Thriving During Sensory Integration Dysfunction,” and has been honored with numerous academic and professional awards, including a clinical educator award from the University of Illinois 2012, and the 2020 North Carolina Occupational Therapy Association Pediatric Award. Her clinical work is rooted in play-based therapeutic approach to empower a child with the self-regulating skills and confidence to thrive in their natural environment. In her practice, she incorporates traditional therapy practices with custom, home programs tailored to the child’s needs, strengths, and treatment goals. As a LEND fellow, she has participated in policy initiatives and has applied that knowledge throughout her career. She credits her success to the support from her husband and family, her ongoing love for her work, and dedication to serving patients and their families. She looks forward to continuing to expand her practice with a concierge program in the coming years.
