There is low turnout of voters in the ongoing by-election in Surulere 1 Federal Constituency of Lagos State, THE WHISTLER can report.
Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at most of the polling units in the constituency observed by our correspondent have little number of voters to attend to.
For instance, at 12:15 p.m, only 61 people had voted out of 669 registered voters at poll unit 014, located at Elizabeth Fowler Memorial School, Surulere.

Meanwhile, the bye-election has been peaceful so far. THE WHISTLER observed heavy security presence around the constituency.
The bye-election is to replace the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila.
Gbajabiamila, who represented Surulere 1 Federal Constituency in the lower house of the National Assembly for 20 years, tendered his resignation letter on the floor of the House on June 14, 2023 to resume work as the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu.
Although 12 political parties are participating in the House of Representatives bye-election, the contest is between the All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
