It took 14 seasons for San Francisco 49ers left tackle Trent Williams to appear in his first Super Bowl.
Although a victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday would mark the biggest achievement of his career, that wouldn’t stop Williams from coming back for a 15th season.
“I haven’t thought about the end, so I know I’m definitely in for the next couple of years,” Williams said, per NBC Sports’ Matt Maiocco. “I’ll revisit it after that.”
“Winning on Sunday will only make me want to win another one next year. When you can achieve something that feels this good, you kind of get addicted to it, right? You want to achieve that award again. So I think that it will only make me want it more.”
Williams has two years and more than $54 million remaining on the six-year deal he signed with the 49ers in 2021, which made him the highest paid offensive lineman in NFL history. The Chiefs, with help from quarterback Patrick Mahomes, reportedly came close to signing Williams instead.
Making sure the tackle stayed in San Francisco has been a game-changer for the 49ers. Williams participated in almost every single offensive snap during both the 49ers’ divisional round win over the Green Bay Packers and NFC Championship victory over the Detroit Lions on their way to the Super Bowl.
Williams and the 49ers will face the Chiefs in the battle for the Lombardi at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
