The U.S. women’s national team have made a prolific start to their Gold Cup campaign.
Having won the Women’s World Cup in 2015 and 2019, USMNT suffered a seismic setback at last season’s tournament when they were eliminated at the quarterfinal phase.
Megan Rapinoe is among those to have bowed out from the golden generation but Alex Morgan remains among a fresh generation of talent and has scored in both the 5-0 win over the Dominican Republic and 4-0 thrashing of Argentina.
So where does that place Morgan among her country’s all-time top international goalscorers? The Sporting News brings you a look at where she ranks among the pantheon of all-time legends with the USWNT.

Most goals in USWNT history
The record for all-time career goals with the U.S. national team is Abby Wambach, who played from 2001 to 2015, scoring 184 goals in 255 appearances.
Wambach’s mark is 26 more than anyone else on the list, ahead of legends Mia Hamm and Carli Lloyd, who round out the top three.
The highest active player is Alex Morgan, whose 123 goals put her fifth, seven back of Kristine Lilly, who is the all-time USWNT caps leader (354).

Can Alex Morgan set the all-time USWNT goals record?
It’s unlikely that Alex Morgan will reach Abby Wambach’s all-time mark of 184 international goals. She is already 34 years old and needs 61 more to equal the record.
However, it’s feasible she could finish her career as high as second on the list, depending on how long she decides to continue playing.
Morgan currently sits seven goals behind fourth-place Kristine Lilly, and 11 back of Carli Lloyd. It’s reasonable to think Morgan will target the 2027 World Cup, which would give her ample opportunity to scrub out those gaps. Reaching Mia Hamm’s tally of 158 is a stretch and will need an increase on Morgan’s recent scoring rate.
She went goalless at the 2023 World Cup and her effort against the Dominican Republic ended almost a year without a USWMT goal.
