The developer of Helldivers 2 has declared the weekend just gone a success, insisting the game’s servers handled all players “without problem”.
In a tweet, Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt said he was proud of the development team after a weekend that appeared to go much better than the prior weekend for players trying to login. This despite Helldivers 2 breaking its Steam concurrent player count record once again, hitting 458,709.
Helldivers 2 has suffered significant server problems since its explosive launch across PlayStation 5 and PC, so much so that Pilestedt had issued a warning about server queues for the weekend just gone. But the developer appears to be getting on top of the issues after releasing a number of patches and, most recently, raising the max player cap to a whopping 700,000 concurrent users. Earlier in the weekend, Pilestedt tweeted to say Arrowhead expected the Helldivers 2 servers to hit a new 800,000 concurrent user max capacity cap, warning of “light queues” during peak play times.
Pilestedt indicated Arrowhead is now ready to start thinking about improving the game in other, non-server trouble ways, and tweeted to say it now has time to “resume our original plan.” Arrowhead has yet to announce a roadmap of content for Helldivers 2, but Pilestedt teased “many exciting things upcoming!”.
So, what can Helldivers 2 players expect in the future? There’s a lot of chatter about the addition of mechs for players to get to grips with, as well as new players. A new faction seems likely, too (Helldivers 2 is already teasing the arrival of The Illuminate from the first game). Perhaps Arrowhead will also add new weapons and stratagems at some point. In the short term, the developer will probably issue a balance patch based on the feedback from the community around so-called ‘meta builds’, and colour customisation for armour seems likely, too.
Until then, the fight against the bugs and robots continues. If you’re playing, be sure to check out IGN’s comprehensive Helldivers 2 guide.
