Yunusa Jibrin, a Master’s degree graduate in computer science from the University of Sussex, has leveraged AI-driven image synthesis to create a tool that can generate thousands of visual representations of bandits in desert environments.
These images, complete with weapons and vehicles, are then analyzed by a Vision Transformer (VT) model to discern terrorist elements with remarkable accuracy.

Jibrin, who hails from Gombe State, is seeking collaboration with the federal government to implement this technology in the fight against banditry. He believes that if his findings are adopted, they could significantly direct the efforts of the military towards identifying and eliminating bandits wherever they may be hiding in Nigeria.
Leading a team of researchers from the Federal College of Education (Technical) Potiskum, Jibrin emphasizes the need for a technology-backed approach to warfare against terrorist elements in Nigeria. He is determined to partner with the government to address the insecurity that is hindering the country’s development.
