Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton seemed like they would be great pals, but things changed right before Meghan’s wedding to Prince Harry. Stories came out that Meghan had made Kate cry over something said about Princess Charlotte’s dress for the wedding. But when Meghan talked to Oprah three years later, she said it was actually Kate who made her upset.
Meghan was surprised when she told Oprah Winfrey that Kate had a “problem” with Princess Charlotte’s dress. It was even said that Kate thought all the bridesmaid dresses should be “completely remade.” The Duchess of Sussex shared that she felt hurt by what happened.

She explained to Oprah: “A few days before the wedding, she was upset about something pertaining – yes, the issue was correct – about flower girl dresses, and it made me cry, and it really hurt my feelings.”
Meghan also said: “Everyone in the institution knew it wasn’t true. I am not sharing that piece about Kate to be in any way disparaging about her. I would hope that she would want that to be corrected.”
When Oprah asked for more details, Meghan said she couldn’t say more because Kate had said sorry. Meghan told us that she has forgiven Kate because she’s a “good person”.

Meghan also shared that Kate tried to fix things by giving her flowers and a note saying sorry. Meghan said: “She brought me flowers and a note, apologising. And she did what I would do if I knew that I hurt someone, right, to just take accountability for it.”
The Royal Family released a statement shortly after Meghan and Harry’s bombshell Oprah interview. They said while the issues raised were “concerning”, “some recollections may vary”. The statement continued: “They are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much-loved family members.”

It’s since been claimed Princess Kate pushed for the line “some recollections may vary” to be included in the response. A new edition of Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind the Crown by Valentine Low claimed she had a key role in the statement.
A source told the author that the Royal Family originally planned on releasing “a much milder” version of the statement. Prince William agreed with Kate, and the person said: “They were both of one mind that we needed something that said that the institution did not accept a lot of what had been said.”
Another insider shared: “It was Kate who clearly made the point, ‘History will judge this statement and unless this phrase or a phrase like it is included, everything that they have said will be taken as true’.”
