Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. Ah, that time between Easter but before… the next holiday. What is the next holiday? I’ll have to ask someone who makes an eternally-updated app, they would certainly know. Anyway, there’s no particular theme to this week’s updates. They just… are. But they’re fun ones, I think. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!
Subway Surfers, Free
It’s a Subway Surfers update, which means a new location, a new Surfer or two, and a new board or two. The location this time? Marrakesh. New Surfers? Hamza, Faiza, and Teabot. New boards? No idea. I guess they aren’t including that in the update notes anymore. There is a new booster in the form of the Super Bubble, which works like any shield would in a running game. You can also now share your accomplishments, such as they are, with your friends using the correctly-named Share Button. Okay, fine. I don’t like these new abridged notes, Jerry! I don’t like them at all!
MARVEL Future Fight, Free
Two Marvel game updates this time, and oddly this one opts to bring in Black Swan just like the Marvel Snap one did a couple months back. Anyway, Black Swan is here as a Tier-3 playable Super Villain and a World Boss. Thanos gets a new Uniform, and there are also some April Fools’ Day Uniforms for Angel and Satana. Angel gets his Tier-4 Advancement, and some improvements have been made in the World Boss mode to make it more interesting to play. Not a huge update by any means, but any new playable character is welcome at this point in the game’s life.
Disney Heroes: Battle Mode, Free
A new Disney Heroes update usually means a new Disney Hero, and this one is certainly no exception to that. This time we have someone rolling in from Phineas and Ferb, and it’s… Dr. Doofenshmirtz. Fun to say, hard to type, and an interesting pick for a new character. Add him to your team and see what you can get going, I suppose. At this point, it’s almost always a surprise to see who they add to this game’s extremely deep roster of characters.
Marvel Contest of Champions, Free
It’s been a minute or two since the last time I’ve been able to do this, but… I’m awarding this Marvel game the coveted UMMSotW award for the week. Wow! The new Change The Record event quest sees Spider-Punk and the Prowler joining the Contest, which means we’ve got not one but two Hobie Browns in the mix. A new story chapter has been added, along with a number of new features and improvements to various modes. Oh, and King Groot (Deathless) arrives as a new Champion. He is… Evil Groot. Enjoy!
Merge Mansion, Free
Here’s the obligatory free-to-play matching puzzle game update for the week, and we’re checking in on that villainous Grandma to see what she’s up to. This latest version sees the addition of the Lounge area, which will likely have some kind of event tied to it. There are some UI improvements, and some special events that will pop later in the month. New levels are available for Gloves, Detergent, and Cleaning items, and all Lamps from levels 6 to 10 will now produce Moths. Do we… do we want moths? I suppose we do. I can’t make sense of this game’s sekaikan, but it’s still pretty fun to look at anyway.
Samba de Amigo: Party-To-Go,
The Apple Arcade Samba de Amigo continues to grow, with four new songs to play. One of them is a big one, as Samba songs go. Take On Me is now in the game, though it isn’t the Reel Big Fish version seen in the classic games. Instead, we get the Weezer version. Well, it’s still cool. Also in here is the Theme of Phantom R from the cult favorite Rhythm Thief & the Emperor’s Treasure, Good-Bye Declaration by Chinozo, and Spicy Beach BBQ -Sizzling Mix-, which feels like it’s here a few months early. But hey, new songs are new songs.
Cypher 007,
Welcome to my Atlantis lair, Mr. Bond! I think you’ll find the five new levels to be quite the challenge, and Karl Stromberg is ready to put an end to your mission. The Spy Who Loved Me? More like The Spy Who Loved Death! Ha ha! I’m a hilarious leader. All my henchmen tell me so. If you survive, you might get your hands on the Magnetic Watch and even some new outfits from Casino Royale, No Time To Die, and Goldfinger. But really… what are the odds of that? Even if you live that long, you’ll never escape the Mind Trap! I’d wish you good luck, Mr. Bond, but we both know even luck won’t save you this time. Ha ha! Ha! Laugh with me, henchies!
Zookeeper World,
Okay, I can’t really punch up a Zookeeper World update the same way I can with a James Bond game. But there are new puzzle stages to play here, twelve to be exact, and they’ll be available from next week. Why not now? I don’t know. Just be patient, I suppose. Update now, goodies later. But you can spend this week imagining how those new stages will be set up. Maybe an obstacle here? A conveyor there? Lovely. Just keep doing that for six more days and you’ll be all set.
Bloons TD Battles 2, Free
Note that this update also applies to the Apple Arcade + version of the game. I’ve used the standard version here for variety’s sake. There’s a new hero in this update, Fateweaver Adora. She has a nice bag of tricks, including the Sharp Sting of Fate attack, the Eye of Misfortune debuff, and the nasty Chains of Fate. Throw in a new Bling season and a number of bug fixes and other improvements, and that’ll be the bunch. If you have Apple Arcade, play that version. This free one is a little… hungry, if you know what I mean.
Asphalt 9: Legends, Free
Let’s bring things to a close today with a bit of a legendary update. Oh wait, no. I’m being told this is not a legendary update, but rather a Legends update. Awkward. Good game, though. You get two new seasons here, one that sees you racing from Europe to Asia and another where you can enjoy some springtime fun with European supercars. Which ones? The Zenvo Aurora Tur, FV Frangivento Asfanè, Aston Martin Vantage V12 2022, Lamborghini SC63, De Tomaso P900 and Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.8. There’s also an interesting event going on called the Korean Food Festival Special, which isn’t something you would expect to see in a racing game but… it is the 2020s, and there is time to enjoy food culture. There’s a bit more in here, but I’ll leave it to you to investigate if you’re interested.
