Netflix has released the trailer for its new animated family action-comedy “The Monkey King” starring Jimmy O. Yang.
Inspired by an epic Chinese tale, the story follows a charismatic Monkey and his magical fighting Stick on an epic quest for victory over 100 demons, an eccentric Dragon King, and Monkey’s greatest foe of all — his own ego.
Along the way, a young village girl challenges his self-centered attitude and shows him that even the smallest pebble can have a big effect on the world.
Jolie Hoang-Rappaport, Nan Li, Bowen Yang, Jo Koy, Ron Yuan, Hoon Lee, BD Wong, Andrew Kishino, Sophie Wu, Andrew Kishino, Jodi Long, James Sie, Andrew Pang, Stephanie Hsu, and Kuno Inghram lend their voices to the project alongside Yang.
Netflix Animation is coming off the Oscar-winning success of “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio”. More recently they released “he Magician’s Elephant” and have several other films on the way soon including “Leo,” “High in the Clouds” and “In Your Dreams”.
Anthony Stacchi directed “The Monkey King” with animation being handled by ReelFX. It is set to release on the streamer on August 18th.
