Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will build a temple for Ma Sita, Amit Shah announced at an election rally on Thursday.
Speaking in Sitamarhi, believed to be the birthplace of Ma Sita, Shah declared, “We, the BJP, don’t get scared of the ‘vote bank’. PM Modi has built the temple of Ram Lalla in Ayodhya. Now, the work that remains is to build a great memorial at the birthplace of Ma Sita.”
He emphasized that only a BJP government under Narendra Modi can build the Sita temple. “Those who kept themselves away from the Ram temple can’t do this. But if someone can build a temple as ideal as the life of Ma Sita, it’s Narendra Modi and the BJP,” he added.
Despite the religious significance of Punaura Dham, the birthplace of Sita has not gained prominence like Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Ram.
This time, JD(U)’s Devesh Chandra Thakur is competing against RJD’s Arjun Ray. JD(U) is part of the NDA alliance, while RJD is with the INDIA bloc.
In 2019, Sunil Kumar Pintu of JD(U) defeated RJD’s Arjun Ray by over 2.5 lakh votes.
The Sitamarhi constituency has elected a Yadav candidate at least ten times in the past.
Previously part of the Muzaffarpur North-West constituency, Sitamarhi comprises six assembly segments. The NDA has MLAs in five seats: Bathnaha (BJP), Parihar (BJP), Sursand (JD), Sitamarhi (BJP), and Runnisaidpur (JDU).). The RJD has won the Bajpatti assembly segment.
