Senegalese-American Singer, Akon chose Davido over Burna Boy in a recent chat with N.O.R.E and DJ EFN on the Drink Champs podcast.
His choice was inspired by a question thrown at him during the podcast. Akon who was asked to choose between the two Nigerian music legends, picked Davido.
Akon said, “I would probably go with Davido. Oh David, that kid right there is a beast, he’s the beast, he’s another one I think that deserves more flowers than he’s received,” he said.”
The Senegalese artist is known to praise Nigerian stars for their contribution to Afrobeats. An example of this would be the time he described Wizkid as a superstar.
Speaking during an interview, Akon said, “Wizkid is just a superstar, he is one of those guys that put up one record a year and the record lasts a whole year. He is a born star without a doubt.”
Akon calls Davido an underdog
Akon in another interview with American Radio host, Sway, said, “So, Davido was the underdog. But he had the support of a wealthy family so he was able to come up every week with a new song, new video. So he just kept coming. He has more songs than any Afrobeats.”
He also added that “He (Davido) beats the others with quantity versus quality. So he had his method… Everybody has their method.”
Akon’s choice has however generated a debate online as fans of both artists took to social media to express their opinions.

Meanwhile, Akon also said that Nigerians are the most intelligent people on the planet.
Speaking in a separate interview with podcaster Big Boi, Akon said there might be some bad apples in the country ruining the image of Nigeria by committing different crimes, but that still doesn’t change the fact that Nigerians are brilliant people.
