Gujarat chief minister said that instructions have been given to the local bodies and the administration for immediate rescue and relief operations
Over 20, including children, lost their lives as a massive fire broke out at the TRP Game Zone in Rajkot, Gujarat on Saturday (May 25), local media reported with the toll expected to rise. Reports said that many are still feared trapped.
Raju Bhargava, Police Commissioner, Rajkot said that the fire, which broke out in the afternoon, is under control but the rescue operations are underway.
He said, “We are trying to retrieve as many bodies as possible. As of now, around 20 bodies have been recovered and they have been sent to the hospital for further investigation. Investigations will be carried out.”
“The gaming zone is owned by a person called Yuvraj Singh Solanki. We will be registering an offence for negligence and the deaths which have occurred. The further investigation will take place once we complete the rescue operations here,” he added.
In a post on X, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said, “Instructions have been given to the Municipal Corporation and the administration for immediate rescue and relief operations in the fire incident in the game zone in Rajkot. It has also been instructed to prioritize arrangements for immediate treatment of the injured.”
Gujarat chief minister also announced that the state government will provide Rs 4 lakh (approx $ 4,800) to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 (approx $600) to the injured.
The CM also said that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed and assigned to investigate the entire incident.
As quoted by the news agency ANI, Fire Station Officer RA Joban earlier said, “We cannot say anything about the exact number. We are bringing down bodies from both sides. The search operation is underway.”
Fire officer IV Kher told the news agency that the reason for the fire is yet to be ascertained and attempts to douse the fire are underway.
“We have not received any message of missing persons. We are facing difficulty in the firefighting operation because the temporary structure has collapsed and due to wind velocity,” he said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on X, “Extremely distressed by the fire mishap in Rajkot. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. Prayers for the injured. The local administration is working to provide all possible assistance to those affected.”
