The Boston Red Sox entered Wednesday night’s game against the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards with a chance to win the series, but they were defeated 6-1.
Red Sox starter Kutter Crawford didn’t have his best stuff, and a few mistakes killed him. In the second inning, with a 1-0 lead, he hit Colton Cowser with a pitch, allowed singles to Anthony Santander and Ramon Urias and walked James McCann to load the bases in a tie game with two outs. Gunnar Henderson made Crawford pay with a grand slam.
Crawford allowed just one more hit, walk and hit-by-pitch, finishing the game with five runs allowed on four hits and two walks over six innings of work.
Chase Anderson relieved Crawford, allowing one run (a solo shot by Urias) over his two innings.
Corbin Burnes and company, stifled Boston’s offense, as they totaled just six total hits and one run. Even that run was questionably earned, as Connor Wong advanced two bases due to errors and scored on a poor throw on a fielder’s choice.
Wong was the only member of the Red Sox lineup to record multiple hits. Rob Refsnyder, Wilyer Abreu, Vaughn Grissom and David Hamilton each recorded one.
Abreu did make some great plays in the field, including a jumping play going back toward the wall and a diving catch coming in.

Boston is now 28-28 on the season, and they’ve won just one of their six matchups with Baltimore.
What’s up next?
The Red Sox will take on the Detroit Tigers for a four-game series starting on Thursday at Fenway Park.
