LUCIA Phathekile (4), the little girl who was run down by a truck, was laid to rest on Thursday, 30 May.
The little girl was with her mum, returning from a party, when a speeding truck ran her over. The driver ran away, and according to the family, no arrests have been made yet.
Daily Sun published an article titled: “Truck ends little Lucia’s fun day!” published on Tuesday, 21 May.
The uncle of the dead little Lucia, Offen Mbatha, said the suspect hasn’t come forth, but his boss, the owner of the truck, has since come through and apologised and helped the family with funeral arrangements.

“The truck owner did meet with us. He showed remorse and questioned how the driver handled the matter. He also paid for all the funeral costs, including food, transportation and funeral parlour expenses. We’re thankful because we had no means to bury the little one,” he said.
It’s alleged the owner of the truck, Mike Sizwe, doesn’t know where the driver could have run to after the incident.
The driver has yet to meet the rest of the family to offer them his apology and condolences.
“We met with the owner at the police station, and he arranged everything,” Offen said.
“Police can confirm the incident, and a case of culpable homicide has been opened for further investigation,” Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said.
