SIMILAR to 29-1 shot ANNGELOS almost pulling off the upset as last Sunday’s ‘outsider’, Saturday’s Reggae 6 opener must be approached with caution.
BLINKIN LIGHT appears a tempting banker after finishing a clear second behind BOASEY at five furlongs straight two Saturdays past. However, moving from a favoured stands’ side draw out the straight, to the one hole at five and a half, could be the kiss of death for Gary Griffiths’ runner.
Surprisingly early at five furlongs straight, 10-1 chance BLINKIN LIGHT was outsped by BOASEY after closing into third behind ARIA’S REIGN and TOKILLAMOCKINGBIRD on the round course six days earlier.
BLINKIN LIGHT’s inconsistency in running style cannot go unnoticed, making him a risky proposition despite his brave run on last. It’s best advised to consider the likes of SPITZEN KHAN, LION CHARMER, SIR WONG DON and speedy SUGAR SUGAR as selections to accompany BLINKIN LIGHT in the Reggae 6 opener.
Saturday’s Reggae 6 is further riddled with pothole races such as the third and fifth events. A $180,000 claiming race, the third speaks for itself. Form is non-existent at the level, hence any of NINA DORADA, HUNTER’S RIDGE, GALWAY BAY and the expected favourite, SILVERSTINE, could steal the scrap from in front.
The fifth is no different from the third, a bunch of $250,000 claimers in a sprint, which could go to the soundest on the day. Therefore, any of STANISLAUS, UNDECIDED, ACTION RUN, REMINISCN BOLO and STORM VALLEY could turn up on the day.
The bankers to be on are CAPTAIN FANTASTIC, POWER FROM ABOVE and PASSWORD in the second fourth and sixth, respectively. CAPTAIN FANTASTIC should get off the mark after being ambushed by smart WARSAW on debut. POWER FROM ABOVE should catch them all at nine furlongs and PASSWORD has a good draw to storm past rivals at four furlongs straight.
