Day three of Royal Ascot saw celebrities and Royals turn the notch up on their fashion choices in a bid to hit it big in the style stakes at the event’s prestigious Ladies Day. And big really did seem to be the theme of the day as hats and headpieces took centre stage of most of their looks.
Take Emma Louise Connolly, for example, who even pondered herself “How much is too much?” on Instagram before putting in an appearance at the races with her Made in Chelsea husband, Oliver Proudlock. The model uploaded a series of clips getting ready for the big event before posing for official photographs wearing a statement navy wide brim hat featuring an oversized white bow, a matching top and a white linen-looking skirt.
If you want to shop Emma’s look for occasionwear season, you can get the exact one from Rixo. The Eimer Silk Top that the mum-of-one is wearing costs £210 here and is available in sizes 6 through to 18. If you only want to wear it once for an event, you can also rent the top from £18 per day on By Rotation here. For a slightly more affordable alternative that combines the bow detailing with the navy and white colours, Phase Eight’s Carys Contrast Piping Blouse, £49 here, will give you her look for less.

As for Emma’s hat, the star also used her socials to thank Lock Hatters for ‘coming to her rescue’. The piece she’s wearing will set you back £645 here, but unfortunately, it’s currently out of stock on the brand’s website. To get a similar look, we recommend taking a glance at John Lewis’ Bow Wide Brim Downturn Hat, £45 here.
If Emma’s style inspiration for this look was Audrey Hepburn, she’s definitely nailed that vintage starlet effect to a tee. The star, however, says she was channelling ‘My Fair Lady’ with her look, noting that she thought the oversized hat and ‘little sister’ top are ‘amazing’ together, despite looking ‘a little much’.
The model shares her hack to stop your hairline from sweating while wearing a hat

It wasn’t just fashion inspiration that Emma served us today. The model also clued us into a top hack we’re about to use all summer long: a swipe of roll-on deodorant to the sweaty points of the face. “Remember when Kyle Richards learnt about putting roll-on deodorant on her upper lip and hairline?” Emma captions a clip of her applying a Sure stick deodorant. “Sweaty hat prep!”
Finally, she gives one more tip for ensuring a blemish-free, radiant base this summer. “I never get so many compliments as when I wear this foundation,” she pens. “It’s Jones Road What the Foundation.” If you want to pick one up, you can shop the tinted moisture balm in a range of shades for £42 here.
Thanks for the tips, Emma!
