So far, the summer hasn’t been much to shout about with sunny spells punctuated by drizzle, grey skies and chilly mornings. But that could all be about to change as the school holidays roll around.
And the good news is, the hot weather no longer needs to be measured with a stopwatch, with consistently warmer temperatures expected towards the end of this month.
High pressure is likely to sweep across the UK as we go into late July, when schools break up and families head off on breaks abroad and around the country.
Netweather predicts that temperatures could be 2C above average, saying: “High pressure may be a dominant feature of the weather bringing dry spells through much of the month, though Scotland could be wetter closer to lower pressure.”
They added: “Likely a very warm month overall, perhaps hot at times in the south.” August is also likely to be a “very hot month” in the UK though the weather service warns that the later part could be “unsettled and wetter”.
However, before all that the weather is likely to be very mixed indeed, with the BBC’s Carol Kirkwood warning it’s going to be windy across the country today and tomorrow.
She warned that is especially true for Friday, saying: “There are going to be heavy gusts of winds particularly across the southern counties of England through the English channel, especially Essex. Temperatures of 13 to around 19 or 20C.”
Things are no better over the weekend with Carol warning: “We’ve got this area of low pressure continuing to drift off into the North Sea. still producing some rain.
“It will be windy on Saturday and it’s looking showery on Sunday but this weather front may well bring us more in the way of rain. So on Saturday the north and the east will see some rain as the low pressure drifts across us. Sunny spells further south but showery on Sunday.”
