Sydney, July 13 was a special day as the greatest band in the world, Tenacious D, was ready to rise again on Australian soil, this time in front of a sold-out ICC to kick off their Spicy Meatball Australian tour.
Nashville’s progressive duo Crusade opened the night with an energetic 30-minute set to warm up the crowd.
At 9 PM, the lights went off, the energy was high, “the Fenix was ready to rize,” and the crowd was ready to pay “Tribute” as the iconic opening credits of “The Pick of Destiny” began, meaning one thing: The D was finally on stage.

Jack Black & Kyle Gass unleashed mayhem from the first chords of “Kickapoo,” with the crowd chanting along, bringing the house down with their mischievous blend of rock and parody.
Black is a true rockstar; he never misses a note and showcases a unique stage presence with a range inspired by the greats like Zeppelin, Judas Priest, and The Who, while Gass is such a great musician and true acolyte of rock.
As expected, songs like “Tribute” made the entire place sing along, including a huge demonic figure who took over the back of the stage, while “The Metal,” with the usual Robotic Titan making his entrance on stage, kept the energy going.
Hilarious moments included Black going off at their “New Pyro guy” and his iconic outbursts at Gass. However, “The D” is more than that, as they also paid their own tributes to Chris Isaak by doing a cover of “Wicked Game,” and to their helpers by performing their song “Roadie” to thank everyone who makes their shows possible.
Other notorious moments included their performance of “Videogame,” “The Spicy Meatball Song,” and of course “Beelzeboss” to defeat the devil on stage.
The night ended with “Fuck Her Gently” in front of a standing ovation that left everyone smiling.
Overall, Tenacious D, proved they are more than a band; their shows are a full immersive experience that must be witnessed. It has comedy, props, but mostly pure rock & roll!
Tenacious D, is truly the best, greatest band in the world, and Jack Black is a treasure of mankind that should be protected at all costs!
