Ghanaians have reacted to Bawumia’s promise of making phones more accessible to Ghanaians if elected president.

Speaking at a campaign event, Dr Bawumia outlined a plan to collaborate with phone manufacturers to provide smartphones on a credit basis, enabling citizens to pay as little as one or two cedis per month.

“We will make mobile phones accesible, my government will partner with phone manufacturers so that Ghanaians can afford them on credit and pay 1 or 2 cedis every month,” Dr Bawumia announced, highlighting the importance of digital inclusion in his administration’s agenda.

Dr Bawumia emphasised that this initiative would significantly enhance access to information and communication technology, bridging the digital divide and empowering more Ghanaians to participate in the digital economy. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to improve the technological landscape and foster economic growth.

“Access to smartphones is no longer a luxury but a necessity. It opens up opportunities for education, business, and staying connected with loved ones. By making smartphones affordable, we are not only enhancing connectivity but also fostering an environment where every Ghanaian can thrive in the digital age,” Dr Bawumia added.

Reacting to this some Ghanaians have quizzed if he has finally run out ideas for his campaign.
