Ben Shephard has swapped early starts on Good Morning Britain for the world of light-hearted daytime TV alongside Cat Deeley on This Morning. While we’re sure the 49-year-old’s wife Annie will be happy that the alarm clock has stopped ringing so early, Ben previously revealed what annoyed her most about their relationship.
Like most relationships, Ben admitted during an appearance on Good Morning Britain last year that it’s actually his mum that causes friction in their marriage. His former co-host Kate Garraway asked at the time if mums should stop spoiling their sons once they become adults.
Ben explained: “My wife with my boys does look after them and spoils them and does everything for them and my mum probably does that for me. I know Annie gets annoyed about my mum and my relationship and me being spoiled by my mum and I can see it with her and our boys.”

Ben and Annie met as students at University of Birmingham in 1995, finally tying the knot in 2004 after nine years together. They share two teenage sons, Jack and Sam, and mainly keep their personal life out of the limelight.
Ben and Cat were announced as the new permanent hosts of This Morning earlier this year after the show has had a number of rotating presenters for the best part of a year.
Phillip Schofield quit the ITV show with immediate effect last May after it emerged that he had had an affair with a younger male colleague. His former co-host Holly Willoughby was then paired with the likes of regulars Dermot O’Leary, Alison Hammond, Josie Gibson and Ben himself before she also left abruptly in October. Members of the This Morning family have been taking over to hold the fort in the meantime.

Upon his appointment, Ben said: “This really feels like a very special moment for Cat and I to be part of the next chapter of This Morning. It’s an honour to be trusted with the reins, join Alison and Dermot and all the team that work on and off screen and do such a great job.
“For the last ten years I’ve been waking up with our ITV daytime audience on GMB and I now look forward to spending time with Cat, welcoming the viewers home after the school run or from their early morning routines, with a cup of tea and a mix of everything that makes This Morning so loved.”
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV1 and ITVX
