Today, July 26, 2024, we shine a light on the often underappreciated heroes of the digital world—system administrators.
This day, known as System Administrator Appreciation Day, was conceived by Ted Kekatos, a dedicated sysadmin who, in 2000, was inspired by a Hewlett-Packard advertisement depicting a system administrator being celebrated with flowers and gifts from grateful colleagues. Since then, this initiative has grown into an annual global event, recognizing the invaluable contributions of system administrators and IT professionals.
Manu Heirbaut, Vice President of Engineering at Datadobi, underscores the critical role sysadmins play in organizational success. “As someone who has direct exposure to the folks in ‘the backroom,’ I have seen first-hand the invaluable role that SysAdmins play in the success of any organization.
