Saturday’s latest edition of the Derby della Madonnina saw eventual victors Inter Milan etch their name into the history books.
For those who may have missed it, one of Italian football’s fiercest rivalries was renewed a short time ago.
This came as Inter and AC Milan locked horns at San Siro, in a highly-anticipated Serie A clash.
The two sides headed into proceedings locked on points atop Italy’s top-flight, having both notched three wins from three to open the campaign.
When all was said and done on Saturday evening, though, one were left standing head and shoulders above their hated city neighbours.
This came as Inter ran riot, en route to an eventual 5-1 rout.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan kicked the scoring into gear at San Siro, before Marcus Thuram doubled the Nerazzurri’s lead courtesy of a stunning finish into the far top corner:
AC Milan sparked hope of a comeback early in the 2nd-half through Rafael Leao, but in reality, the Portuguese only succeeded in delaying an incoming mauling.
After Mkhitaryan added his 2nd to all but kill off the clash as a contest ten minutes from time, former Milan man Hakan Calhanoglu added his name to the scoresheet, before Davide Frattesi rounded out a memorable evening for all associated with Inter deep into injury-time.
And, as alluded to above, in the process, Simone Inzaghi’s men etched their names into the history books of Italian football.
As revealed in the aftermath of the latest Derby della Madonnina, Inter tonight notched their fifth consecutive victory over AC Milan in competitive fixtures for the first time in the club’s 115-year history.
Not only that, but they also found the net on five occasions in a single meeting with Milan for the first time since 1974.
