The UEFA Champions League group stage is back and two of Europe’s giants will square off to headline the return of the action.
Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich hosts English Premier League club Manchester United in Group A’s first match of the UCL group stage. The defending Bundesliga champions split points with Bayer Leverkusen this past weekend, extending their unbeaten run to four matches ahead of Wednesday’s mouthwatering clash.
Unlike their opposition, Manchester United has started the 23-24′ season in underwhelming fashion, landing themselves in the lower half of the EPL table. The Red Devils suffered a 3-1 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend, marking the second-consecutive match where they suffered defeat.
UCL rolls on with Borussia Dortmund visiting the Parc de Princes for its match against Paris Saint-Germain. The Bundesliga runner-ups are unbeaten thus far in league play and will look to continue good form in their European opener.
PSG dropped points against eighth-place Nice last weekend, snapping their three-match unbeaten run ahead of its return to UCL play. Despite PSG’s recent domestic success, the Champions League trophy continues to allude the French giants at all costs.
Italian giants AC Milan hosts Newcastle United the San Siro in the UCL’s Group of Death. The Magpies snapped their three-match losing streak with a 1-0 victory over Brentford while the Rossoneri suffered a humiliating 5-1 loss to rivals Inter.
Champions League football also takes place at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday where Arsenal welcomes PSV for its first Champions League match since 2016-17.
The Gunners are off to an excellent start in EPL play, winning four out of its opening five matches. PSV meanwhile sits top the Eredivisie with 12 points earned and is coming off a 4-0 league victory over NEC Nijmegen.
With points at a premium in MLS, Western Conference leaders St. Louis CITY SC and reigning league champions Los Angeles FC go head-to-head in a top-of-the-table duel. LAFC is coming off a 4-2 El Trafico victory over the LA Galaxy while St. Louis has failed to win any of its last three matches.
