Move over TikTok, YouTube has a new AI-powered creation tool for its users. Now it’s easier than ever to create YouTube Shorts.
The new app is called YouTube Create, and it allows users to edit video right on their phone, versus needing a laptop or an iPad. YouTube says it hopes the ease of its new editing app will make it easier for more people to create Shorts content, helping the video giant take on TikTok. TikTok’s popularity has surged with Gen Z thanks to its user-friendly video editing tools and AI filters.
“The [YouTube Create] app offers video editing tools including precision editing and trimming, automatic captioning, voiceover capabilities and access to a library of filters, effects, transitions, and royalty-free music with beat matching technology so that creators can produce their next YouTube video without relying on complex editing software,” the blog post announcing the new app reads.
Although YouTube Create is completely free to download from the Google Play Store, it is still considered a beta in select markets. Included in those markets are the US, UK, Germany, France, Indonesia, India, Korea, and Singapore. As for an iOS version of the YouTube Create app, that’s planned for next year.
Other features include the ‘Dream Screen,’ which is an AI-generated image or video background that can be interpolated in YouTube Shorts. It also offers a new AI Insights feature to generate video ideas based on what a creator’s target audience is already watching on YouTube.
YouTube’s automatic dubbing feature is also making an appearance in this update, allowing creators to automatically dub their videos in multiple languages. Finally, there’s a new AI-assisted search in Creator Music to help creators find the perfect audio complement to their video. Each of these tools is designed to ease friction points for video creation, so it’s just as easy to create a YouTube Short as it is a TikTok.
