Leaders of two rival parties in Sindh Wednesday announced an eventual merger in the build-up to the general elections of 2018.
In a joint-presser at Karachi Press Club, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) chief Dr Farooq Sattar announced a “political coalition under one name, one party and one manifesto” with Mustafa Kamal’s Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP).
“We are starting our struggle for Pakistan and Sindh under one party, one symbol and one name,” said Sattar who was flanked by Kamal and activists of MQM-P and PSP.
“Our political alliance is for the betterment of Sindh. The purpose of this press conference to be prevent a possible divide of Karachi’s vote bank,” he added.
Kamal, a former Karachi mayor and MQM dissident, said the two parties had been in talks for a possible merger since six months.
“This is for the betterment of the masses. The combined political struggle won’t be known as MQM. There will be a new party, a new manifesto, and a new name,” he added.
The two also rejected the results of 6th Population and Housing Census and said the federal government purposely reduced the numbers of Karachiites in papers to usurp the rights of the citizens.
