The Saskatoon Blades turned the dining room tables on the Regina Pats over the Thanksgiving weekend.

After dropping a 5-1 decision to the Pats in their Western Hockey League season-opener down in Regina, the Blades feasted on the same Pats and exacted a measure of revenge with a convincing 6-1 win Saturday night at SaskTel Centre.

“It’s so nice coming out to that noise and the vibe,” said Blades head coach Brennan Sonne. “The crowds have been absolutely fantastic.”

THE SCORERS

Blades: Brandon Lisowsky (2), Tanner Molendyk, Tyler Parr, Jordan Keller, Lukas Hansen

Pats: Tanner Howe

FIRST POINTS FOR ROOKIES

Blade rookies Willy James, Zach Moore and Samuel Barcik all registered their first point of their WHL career in Saturday’s win.

Parr registered his first goal of the season.

HOWE SPOILS SHUTOUT BID

Howe’s goal, early in the third period, spoiled a shutout bid by Blades goalie Austin Elliott, who made 14 saves for the win.

Elliott has three straight wins since returning to Saskatoon from the NHL Nashville Predators training camp with Molendyk.

WHAT WENT RIGHT

Pretty much everything went right for the Blades on Saturday. Saskatoon outshot Regina 51-15 and led 3-0 and 6-0 by periods.

The Blades went 2-for-8 on the power play and held the Pats in check with the man-advantage as Regina was 0-for-3.

THEY SAID IT

“We looked like the Blades again. For us, we weren’t super happy with the start of our year and, now, we look like the Blades again … Right now, we just need to bottle what we’ve done because we’ve only done it for five-six games. It’s so much more fun to watch when we play with passion, courage and heart.” — Sonne
