According to a new report, Apple is set to make numerous upgrades to its next smaller Pro model next year. While the iPhone 16 Pro is rumoured to be slightly larger than the current iPhone 15 Pro, this will coincide with the adoption of Wi-Fi 7 connectivity, a new 48 MP ultra-wide-angle camera and the 5x periscope sensor from the iPhone 15 Pro Max, among other changes.
Rumours about the iPhone 16 series are well underway, with MacRumours detailing the footprints of all four alleged models late last month. Now, Apple analyst Jeff Pu has discussed some of the expected upgrades headed to the iPhone 16 Pro, roughly 11 months before the device’s probable launch. As usual, Jeff Pu shared his predictions in an investor note, which 9to5Mac claims to have seen shortly after its release.
Allegedly, next year’s smaller Pro could be in line for at least two camera upgrades. According to 9to5Mac, Pu has informed investors that Apple will leverage its new 5x periscope camera in the iPhone 16 Pro, which it debuted this year in the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Reputedly, Apple will increase the size of its smaller by 0.2-inches diagonally to accommodate the tetra prism sensor, which will be joined by a 48 MP ultra-wide-angle camera, a major improvement over the 12 MP equivalent in the iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro.
Supposedly, Apple will equip the iPhone 16 Pro with a Qualcomm Snapdragon X75, a 5G modem that can theoretically deliver peak download speeds of 7.5 Gbps. Jeff Pu adds that Wi-Fi 7 connectivity will also be headed to Apple’s next smaller Pro model, which we suspect would apply to the larger iPhone 16 Pro Max as well. If this is the case, it would not only mean that the iPhone 16 Pro could achieve 46 Gbps speeds on a Wi-Fi 7 compatible network, but that Apple would also only spend one generation selling a Wi-Fi 6E capable Pro model.
