Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Red Lines will bring Lagos closer to a smart city, says Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Said LAMATA followed internationally approved practices while building infrastructure for the Blue and Red Lines.
Last month, Sanwo-Olu undertook an inspection of infrastructures, ahead of flag off the 37-kilometre Red Line before the end of this year.
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has revealed that Lagos is still on course to hit the UN smart city vision by 2030. Sanwo-Olu made this known at the 2023 annual conference and 36th Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Institution of Structural Engineers.
The Governor, who was represented at the conference by the Managing Director, Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Engr. Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, was presented a paper entitled “The Lagos Metro System Structures”.

Speaking at the event, Akinajo informed that LAMATA follows the highest standards and internationally approved practices while building infrastructure for the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue and Red Lines.
According to her, LAMATA ensured that stations are accessible to all with stairways, escalators and ramps as well as tactiles to assist the visually impaired know their way through especially on the platforms.
The conference themed “The emerging tasks for structural engineering practice in Nigeria” was borne out of the need to address the role of structural engineers in steering the country to the right path of development and ensuring best standards by practitioners in this field.
Last month, Governor Sanwo-Olu undertook a comprehensive inspection of the Red Line Rail infrastructure, traversing the major stations of the rail project from Agbado to Oyingbo, ahead of flag off the 37-kilometre Red Line system (LRMT) before the end of this year.
