Three of Jorge Linares’ best moments have come on U.K. soil, where he both won and defended world championships against tough opponents. On October 21, the former three-weight world ruler returns for what he hopes will be another memorable moment against Jack Catterall at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool. The 12-round bout, plus undercard action, will air on DAZN.
Linares, 38, defeated Kevin Mitchell in 2015 to retain the WBC lightweight title in London. The following year, he beat Anthony Crolla at the Manchester Arena to win the WBA and Ring lightweight belts and would double up on that victory in 2017.
This will be LInares’ first time competing across the pond in seven years, and “El Nino de Oro” is determined to turn back the clock despite being on a three-fight losing streak.
“I’m so excited to be in the U.K. It’s my first time in Liverpool, but I have a lot of history in London and two times in Manchester,” Linares told The Ring. “This time it’s a different opponent, different location, different ring, different fans. I’m so excited to be there. I think now I feel different because I feel like now I go back to my house, my town. I remember in 2015, when I fought Kevin Mitchell, it was a total different feeling from now. When I fought Anthony Crolla two times in Manchester, it was totally different, I was more comfortable.

“Catterall is an amazing southpaw, he’s had a lot of good fights in the past. I saw an amazing job he made with [then undisputed junior welterweight titleholder Josh] Taylor. I have a lot of experience and am super happy to fight in England. I’m feeling super good to show the people who I am, and I’m back in a good way.”
A British super lightweight champion, Catterall faced Taylor for the status of undisputed super lightweight champion in 2022. He lost via controversial decision and a rematch has yet to transpire. Facing Linares, Catterall looks to take down the veteran and secure another title opportunity. He could also get another crack at Taylor if all goes according to plan.
