UCLA topped Colorado 28-16 at the Rose Bowl in Deion Sanders and Chip Kelly’s only Pac-12 matchup.
The Bruins didn’t shine under the California sun, but the win brings them to 6-2 on the season, confirming a post-season bowl game.
In his third start of the season, Bruins’ QB Ethan Garbers passed for 269 yards and two touchdowns. He and Collin Schlee combined for two interceptions in UCLA’s first-half turnover issues. It had four, including two fumbles by Carson Steele. Luckily for Kelly, his team fixed the issue and did not have any turnovers in the second-half.
Colorado, on the other hand, could not figure out how to protect QB Shedeur Sanders, who tossed for 217 yards and one touchdown. He was sacked seven times, tying a season-high.
It didn’t help that the Colorado run-game was absent in the second-half. Sanders handed the ball off only four times through the final two quarters, with the first one coming halfway into the final frame; the Buffaloes scored their only touchdown on that drive. They finished with 38-rushing yards, the lowest in a game this season.
Safety Shilo Sanders missed much of the game, ejected late in the first-half for targeting, but Travis Hunter shined in his second game back on the field after injury. He recorded the game’s two picks.
Unfortunately, a bowl game will now be that much harder for Colorado. The Buffaloes are now 4-4 and will face two ranked opponents to finish out the regular season.
