Released to mark two decades of innovation, the Galaxy Z Flip5 Retro is now official as a limited edition handset inspired by the SGH-E700, Samsung’s first phone with a built-in antenna, which was released in 2003. Next month, this special Flip5 will hit Korea, France, Germany, Spain, Australia, and the UK in limited quantities.
In 2003, Samsung introduced the SGH-E700 flip phone as the brand’s first handset to feature an internal antenna. By the time it was discontinued, it sold no less than 10 million units. Earlier today, Samsung confirmed the recent rumors concerning this limited edition smartphone and unveiled the Galaxy Z Flip5 Retro. According to the tech giant headquartered in South Korea, this phone “embodies Samsung’s legacy of innovation” and will hit its home market alongside Germany, Spain, and the UK on November 1, while France will get it on November 2.
Although the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 Retro does not come with any internal hardware changes when compared to the vanilla edition, it uses the indigo blue and silver colors of its two decade-old ancestor, sports a UX design influenced by 2000s pixel graphics, as well as an exclusive Flex Window animation with a nostalgia-infused cityscape.
In addition to the phone and the usual accessories that come with a Galaxy Z Flip5, the retail package of this special edition handset also includes a trio of Flipsuit cards showing logos from Samsung’s past, a Flipsuit case, as well as a collector card carrying a unique serial number.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 Retro will be available in limited quantities next month, as mentioned in the first paragraph, exclusively via Samsung.com. Unfortunately, there are no pricing details available yet, but different prices depending on the market should be expected. Since this handset is marketed as a collector’s item, it is also safe to assume that the stock will vanish in a matter of minutes after becoming available for purchase regardless of the price tag.
