Timothy Weah wasn’t risked for the second half of Juventus’ 1-0 Serie A victory over Hellas Verona on Saturday and the club announced on Monday why the American’s early substitution occurred.
Weah has been diagnosed with a thigh injury, Juventus announced Monday. The 23-year-old started and played 45 minutes against Hellas Verona before being replaced by Fabio Miretti for the second half of Saturday’s victory.
“Following the muscle problem reported during the match against Hellas Verona on Saturday evening, Timothy Weah underwent instrumental tests at J|Medical late this morning which highlighted a low-grade lesion of the semitendinosus of the right thigh,” a club statement read.
“The footballer has already started the rehabilitation process aimed at resuming competitive activity.”
Weah made a permanent move to Juventus this summer from Ligue 1 side Lille and since has made 10 appearances for Massimiliano Allegri’s squad. He has registered one assist to date in Serie A play, featuring as a winger, wing back, and right midfielder at different occasions.
His injury is not only a worry for Allegri but also for U.S. men’s national team head coach Gregg Berhalter.
The USMNT will face Trinidad & Tobago this November in a two-legged Concacaf Nations League quarterfinal showdown. Weah has recorded one goal and one assist combined over the last two international windows.
