Samantha Jones holds a special place in Kim Cattrall’s heart, but that doesn’t mean she’ll make any more cameos in the Sex and the City spinoff, And Just Like That…
On May 31, Variety reported that Cattrall would return for a single scene in the season-two finale, featuring a phone call between Samantha and Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), which was filmed in New York in March. Per the report, “Cattrall’s appearance as Samantha will not be a continuation of the character for now.”
Cattrall echoed this sentiment in a recent interview on TODAY with Hoda & Jenna, which will air on June 30. “It felt like dipping my toe back in time and having a wonderful afternoon, and then a great martini,” she said of filming the finale, per InStyle. When asked if she plans on making more appearances she replied, “That’s as far as I’ll go.”
She added, “I don’t think I’ll ever say goodbye to Samantha. She’s like a lot of other characters that I’ve done over the years. I get very emotionally attached and protective of my characters. She gave me so much and I’m so appreciative of her.”
Page Six previously reported that Kim Cattrall had two major conditions when it came to returning to the series. Earlier this month, the publication alleged that Cattrall refused to film with former costars SJP, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis, nor did she “want to see” showrunner Michael Patrick King on set.
Whether or not this report is accurate—which would make sense, considering her tumultuous history with Parker—Cattrall spoke about a different requirement she had during a recent appearance on The View. “It’s very interesting to get a call from the head of HBO saying, what can we do? And I went, ‘Hmm. Let me get creative,’” Cattrall said. It turns out there was one SATC alum Cattrall did want to work with: the franchise’s original costume designer Patricia Field.
