#HitsOfTomorrow: A Weekly Rundown Of The ‘Should-Be’ Hits ft The Beatles, Kita Alexander, Thuy and More
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Beyond Olivia Rodrigo, we look at must-hear releases from the Fab Four, Tkay Maidza and Bea and Her Business

It’s November, which means the holidays are fast approaching and the number of songs released each week won’t dwindle, the number of big releases won’t be coming out in droves.

Of course, what a way to start the month than with The Fab Four giving us a new single. But we’ll get to that…soon. In the meantime, a shoutout to the other big releases. Jung Kook finally releases his debut album Golden and he has sure proven to be a golden boy this year thanks to a series of smash hits. Here’s hoping they space out singles from the LP ‘cause there are a slew of hits in the waiting line.

Olivia Rodrigo gets her first big soundtrack release “Can’t Catch Me Now” from the The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Lorde achieved great success with the original Hunger Games franchise while Rodrigo seems to be following Billie Eilish’s footsteps here – could an Oscar nod and win be in her future too? I would say possibly but Eilish is currently a frontrunner thanks to her amazing “What Was I Made For?” from the Barbie soundtrack.

With that said, let’s get things started as there are some great tracks that are in need of our attention this week – the SHOULD-BE hits if you will. Here are this week’s #HitsOfTomorrow.

“Now And Then” – The Beatles

So basically every streaming playlist has “Now And Then” at the top of their playlist so the song probably doesn’t need any additional promotion. But I’m going to give it anyway for two very important reasons. First, “Now And Then” is a far superior “new” song by the band than “Free As A Bird” and “Real Love” from the 1990s (both also promoted as new tracks). Here John Lennon’s vocals (with a little help from AI) and Paul McCartney’s active contribution make the song feel less eary and more poignant. It sounds like a quintessential Beatles song which gives all the Beatlemanaics something to reflect on and celebrate the band. Second, there is absolutely no reason this track shouldn’t actually also get airplay on Top 40 radio. That’s actually the main reason I’m featuring the single here. Recently The Rolling Stones released their latest album and despite features from Lady Gaga and McCartney himself, the album hasn’t generated a mainstream hit. While we could argue if there is a single worthy, I have to say that this track by The Fab Four can easily replace the latest Ed Sheeran track played ad nauseam. They were the original pop stars and it would be truly touching to see them crack the charts not just because old folks are buying the single but because everyone actually heard and likes the song.

“don’t miss me too much” – thuy

In case you don’t know her yet, you really should. Thuy is the real deal and “don’t miss me too much” is one of the best R&B productions we’ve heard in 2023. After serving as the opening act for Ella Mai all summer, the Vietnamese-American singer/songwriter seems to tap even more into that soulful grace that has made Mai such a successful artist. Here’s hoping programmers not just on R&B radio take notice globally but Top 40 does too. She’s a star and the track is no doubt a hit!

“Best You Ever Had” – Kita Alexander

With her debut album slated for a March 2024 release, Kita Alexander’s rising popularity is likely to multiply before then. “Best You Ever Had” is a raw, powerful track that is both empowering and emotional. Alexander is definitely one to watch and honestly this track deserves to blow up and make the artist a global household name much in the footsteps in Olivia Rodrigo.

“Won One” – Tkay Maidza

With the release of her second album Sweet Justice, Tkay Maidza takes yet another step towards global stardom. The final single the artist releases from the set, “Won One,” is yet another raw single and works because you can feel the true sentiment behind the lyrics where Maidza questions the music industry and the very apparent misogyny that runs rampantly.

Much like The Kid LAROI and Troye Sivan have become Australian mainstays on the global scale, Maidza has to join post this album!

“Never Ever Love A Liar”  – Bea And Her Business

With an aptly titled EP Introverted Extrovert, Bea And Her Business give us five tracks to savor, with the highlight being the third track “Never Ever Love A Liar.” The track has the kind of hook and lyrical punch that drives global crossover hits and if marketed right, the track really could become a big player on Top 40. At a time when so much is so oft repeated on playlists, programmers would do us a favor if they start playing this stellar track…now!
