Spain’s David Castro Fajardo and Mexico’s Anahi Alvarez Corral crowned themselves winners at the World Triathlon Cup Huatulco in a race many of the world-class athletes decided to skip though.
Corral thus booked a home victory and she took it with quite some supremacy. After 750 meters of swimming, 20 kilometers of cycling and 5 kilometers of running, the Mexican crossed the finish line in a time of 1:00:32. 32 seconds later, it was the American Gwen Jorgensen who took the silver and, eight seconds behind Jorgensen, it was Mexican Mercedes Romero Orozco who finished third. Behind Orozco, the differences were small as she made sure Charlotte McShane (AUS) and Dominiki Jamnicky (CAN) missed the podium by just one and five seconds, respectively.
A Mexican was also on the podium in the men’s race, but on the lowest step. The race was won by Spaniard David Castro Fajardo, who crossed the finish line after 54:14 minutes. He had to sprint to secure his victory, as Castro Fajardo remained only one second ahead of Canadian Tyler Mislawchuk and four seconds ahead of Mexican Aram Michell Peneflor Moysen.
