UFC CEO Dana White has revealed a slate of title fights to kick off the organisation’s first quarter of 2024 — and by the looks of things, fight fans are in for a treat.
With two world titles on the line this weekend in Madison Square Garden, as well as Leon Edwards defending his welterweight crown against Colby Covington next month in Las Vegas, there is already more than enough to look forward to before 2023 is out, but next year also looks set to kick off with a bang.
Up first, at UFC 297 in January, the newly-crowned welterweight champion Sean Strickland will defend his title against top-ranked middleweight Dricus du Plessis — who finally gets his title bout after winning a top contender bout against Robert Whittaker in July.
Next up, at February’s UFC 298, featherweight champion Alex Volkanovski will look to rebound from his second unsuccessful bid to claim the UFC lightweight championship from Islam Makhachev when he fights Ilia Topuria.
And finally for Q1 of 2024, bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley will rematch Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera with his 135-pound world title up for grabs in what will be a rematch of O’Malley’s sole career defeat to date.
UFC 297 will take place in Toronto, Canada on January 20, 2024, but the promotion has yet to reveal the dates and locations of the two pay-per-view events to follow in February and March.
In addition to the Strickland vs. Du Plessis fight which will top UFC 297, the event will also feature a fight to contest the vacant women’s bantamweight title between Mayra Bueno Silva and Raquel Pennington.
