Veteran Nigerian actress, Shan George, has said incompetence is on the rise in Nollywood due to the number of ill-trained actors that have made their way into the industry.
The 53-year-old movie star said they new entrants are largely responsible for the lack of professionalism that is characterising the once revered field.
Speaking in an interview, Shan George also said the situation was the same in other industries, where the lack of professionalism was becoming more rampant.
She said; “The bad eggs, who are not well educated and trained enough for the job to know the rules and tenets of the profession are the ones responsible (for unprofessionalism). The sad part is that such display of unprofessionalism is currently increasing by the day in all industries.”
The Nollywood legend, who went down memory lane, recounted how she joined the movie industry, in 1996.
George said; “My journey into Nollywood began in 1996, when I attended an audition for a movie role at Maryland, Lagos. It was not even planned. I just escorted my sister there, and I was also auditioned to play a part in the movie titled, ‘Thorns of Rose’, and produced by Emeka Osai.
At that point, I was already acting a role in the nationwide NTA soap opera, ‘Winds of Destiny’, directed by Sadiq Daba. The journey has been great so far.”

Veteran actor, Bob-Manuel Udokwu decried the influx of poorly trained practitioners into the movie industry.
He expressed sadness that half-baked actors and filmmakers have invaded Nollywood and are now the leading characters.
Udokwu said; “Nollywood ought to be greater than what it is at the moment. Unfortunately, the true potential of the industry is not being realised. A lot of unprofessional activities are going on.
“Many half-baked practitioners have invaded the industry. The real professionals should step forward and take back Nollywood.”
