Holmwood Technical are the new ISSA rural area senior netball champions after a narrow 37-34 win over defending champions Glenmuir High in Thursday’s final at the Leila Robinson Courts.
Holmwood trailed 5-8 at the end of the first quarter but outscored Glenmuir 15-8 to hold a 21-16 half time lead in the encounter.
The Christiana-based school got outscored 18-16 in the next two quarters but held on for a 37-34 win. Holmwood’s goal shooter Jody Wallace stood tall with 33 goals from 42 attempts, while Glenmuir’s Rashida Brown scored 17 goals from 26 attempts.
St Catherine High retained the urban area title after destroying former champions Gaynstead High 42-29 in their final.
St Catherine were 10-5 up at the end of the first quarter and were out of sight at half time as they led 23-11.
They outscored Gaynstead 10-8 in the third quarter for a 33-19 lead. The St John’s Road school capped off the victory with a 13 goal win.
National Under-21 development player Kellian Hunter scored 25 goals from 30 and MVP and goal attack Kayla Wright poured in 17 goals from 21 attempts. Gaynstead’s Teshina Roache scored 21 goals from 29 attempts.
Meanwhile, The Queen’s School and Manchester High secured the urban and rural area junior titles respectively.
