Africa Global Logistics Launches in Nigeria, Unveils Growth Plan

Africa Global Logistics (AGL), one of Africa’s leading logistics solutions providers, has formally launched in Nigeria with the company unveiling its plans for transformation and growth in Nigeria’s logistics landscape.

Formerly known as Bolloré Africa Logistics, AGL is set to redefine the logistics landscape in Nigeria, delivering unparalleled services and driving economic growth.

The rebrand of AGL in Nigeria represents a pivotal advancement in reinforcing the company’s footprint on the continent and harnessing the potential of Nigeria’s dynamic logistics sector.

“Today marks more than just a rebranding for us. It symbolises our evolution, growth, and dedication to shaping the future of logistics in Nigeria. We are grateful for your presence as our esteemed clients, partners, suppliers, and integral stakeholders. Your trust and collaboration have been instrumental in our success, and we look forward to continuing to serve you with even greater efficiency and innovation,” said Etienne Rocher, managing director of AGL Nigeria, at the unveiling ceremony in Lagos, on Wednesday.

Rocher said the official unveiling of the AGL brand in Nigeria marks a new era of commitment to the country’s growth, signifying a strong dedication to elevating logistics standards and driving Nigeria’s economic evolution, ‘where excellence in logistics meets the heartbeat of Africa’.

Also speaking, Stanislas de Saint Louvent, CEO of Maritime Services and chief investment officer of AGL, said the firm embraces the values of its parent company, the MSC Group.

He said the values include: humility, passion, and agility to adapt to the AGL environment, clients’ needs, and solidarity.

“As a leading multimodal logistics operator in Africa with over a century of expertise offering global, customised, and innovative solutions, AGL’s ambition is to contribute substantially to Africa’s transformation.

“AGL is committed to enhancing end-to-end logistics supply chain continuity across Africa through its port terminals, railway operations, and logistics set up in every African country. We also intend to support the development of the African Continental Free Trade Area, as we believe it is significant for the continent’s development,” said Stanislas de Saint Louvent.

He said as part of the MSC Group, AGL benefits from a robust logistics network that spans the globe.

“This affiliation empowers us to improve our service offer in our port terminals, expand territorial service solutions, and invest in the professional development of our 23,000-strong African workforce.

“By nurturing local talent and promoting diversity through specialised training programmes, we contribute to addressing Africa’s demographic challenges while advancing digital transformation,” he said.

He reiterated AGL’s commitment to strengthening intra-African trade by offering innovative logistics solutions tailored to trade players’ needs to enhance trade corridors’ competitiveness and support Africa’s industrialisation.

Sade Akanni-Shelle, CEO of Africa Global Logistics & Transport Nigeria, said AGL will continue to invest in solutions to support the needs of its customers while adapting to changes in geopolitics and the macroeconomy.

She said the unveiling is a testament to the company’s commitment to Africa’s development.

“As we introduce the four key pillars of our strategy — digitalisation, energy transition, intra-African trade, and investment in local talent – we are excited to embark on this journey of growth and transformation in Nigeria.

“At AGL Nigeria, we firmly believe in creating job opportunities to empower individuals and communities. Our efforts to diversify our expertise are evident in several strategic initiatives. We are expanding into temperature-controlled warehousing, a critical need for many industries. We are re-opening an inland container depot in Ijanikin to streamline logistics and improve efficiency,” she said.

Akanni-Shelle said AGL is renewing its focus on oil and gas logistics through AGL Oil & Gas Services.

“These initiatives are not just about business growth; they are about replicating the success stories we have recorded in other African countries right here in Nigeria, creating further employment opportunities,” she said.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos State, represented by Folasade Ambrose, commissioner for Commerce, Cooperative, Trade and Investment, commended AGL for its relentless pursuit of excellence.

He expressed confidence that the company will create more jobs and contribute to the gross domestic product (GDP) of the state and the country, in addition to facilitating trade across Nigeria.

Established in Nigeria in 1961, AGL provides comprehensive logistics services, including port operations, marine logistics, and oil and gas services. Through Tin-Can Island Container Terminal Ltd (TICT), a port concession that commenced in the Port of Lagos/Tin-Can Island in 2006, AGL operates a container terminal in Lagos, enhancing the port ecosystem by pioneering innovative initiatives such as the development of waterways through barges.

AGL is dedicated to Nigeria’s socio-economic development through tailored logistics solutions and continuous investment in innovation. This will enable the company to serve diverse markets such as oil and gas, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCGs), telecom, aid and relief, and power and technologies.

The unveiling was witnessed by dignitaries including the representative of Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos State; Niyi Adebayo, former minister of Trade and Industry; Fidet Okhiria, managing director of Nigerian Railway Corporation, and Olubunmi Kuku, managing director of Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), among many others.
