In a recent turn of events in Ondo State, Deputy Governor Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa has returned to the state, ready to take the reins of the executive council meeting scheduled for today. This return marks a significant step in the ongoing political saga that has gripped the state, following his meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Abuja last Friday.
The political landscape in Ondo has been tumultuous, with the State House of Assembly pushing for the impeachment of Aiyedatiwa amidst a breakdown in relations with Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, who had been on a prolonged medical leave in Germany.
This situation escalated when it was reported that Aiyedatiwa had been asked to submit an undated resignation letter, a move seen as part of efforts to resolve the political crisis in the state.
Aiyedatiwa resumed amidst the push for impeachment
However, these developments took a turn when Aiyedatiwa, apparently dissatisfied with the arrangement, returned to Ondo and resumed his official duties. A source from the deputy governor’s office confirmed that Aiyedatiwa is back in office and will preside over the state Executive Council meeting, indicating a semblance of normalcy in the governance of the state.
Amidst these developments, the political crisis in Ondo had drawn the attention of President Tinubu, who intervened by meeting with the concerned parties. His involvement was hailed by an Ondo APC chieftain, Otunba Olumide Araoyinbo, who expressed optimism that this intervention would resolve the crisis and rejuvenate commercial activities in the state.
However, the situation remains complex, with a group named Concerned Elites of Ondo State accusing the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Olamide Oladiji, of distorting the resolutions reached during the meeting with President Tinubu. The group alleged that the Speaker’s actions did not align with the agreed terms, particularly regarding the deputy governor’s role.
