In a commitment to advancing ethical practices, leading investor Australian Ethical has granted $500,000 to ten not-for-profit enterprises championing innovative solutions to address climate change issues.
The recipients, spanning various projects, are dedicated to designing clean energy solutions, advocating for climate action, biodiversity protection, and fostering female-led enterprises.
The Visionary Grants recipients for this cycle include Rewiring Australia, Australian Council of Social Service (ACOSS), Tomorrow Movement, Environmental Defenders Office, Martuwarra Fitzroy River Council, Great Southern Reef Foundation, Gudanji For Country, Love Mercy Foundation, Pollinate Group, and ActionAid Australia.
ACOSS will utilize the funding for a heat survey aimed at identifying 1.8 million low-income households in Australia unable to afford the transition to renewable energy without assistance.
The Environmental Defenders Office’s ‘Fossil Fuel Tracker’ monitors fossil fuel projects in the Australian regulatory pipeline, providing citizens with legal resources to take effective climate action and protect cherished environments.
The Gudanji For Country project aims to preserve knowledge endangered by climate change and extractive industries, documenting flora, fauna, and sacred sites to safeguard Country and establish a future research and collaboration site.
Annually, Australian Ethical allocates 10% of its profits to fund initiatives benefiting the planet, people, and animals. Over $9 million has been awarded to grant recipients since 2000.
Maria Loyez, Chief Customer Officer of Australian Ethical, expressed enthusiasm for this year’s diverse and impactful projects, emphasizing the foundation’s commitment to supporting high-impact charities addressing climate change.
“Of course ethical investing isn’t philanthropy, but our investors and members can be assured that as their nest egg grows, the Australian Ethical Foundation will be supporting people and projects such as this year’s deserving recipients.
“I think that’s another reason for our members to feel good and know their money is working for the benefit of many as well as long-term returns.”
In a unique twist, the foundation invites superannuation members and investors to vote for their favorite initiative in the People’s Choice Visionary Grant category. The project with the most votes will receive an additional $10,000.
